Meet the Cambrian Board

As a member of Cambrian, you are a part owner and elect a Board of Directors to represent you and make decisions on behalf of the membership.

Cambrian's Board of Directors' primary responsibility is to lead the Credit Union's strategic direction through strong, responsible, and ethical governance. The Cambrian Board is committed to ensuring its directors have diversified skill sets and possess the relevant experience and expertise to optimize our organizational performance.

Judy Mathieson

Chair

Board member since 2016. Term ends 2025.

“I see my contribution as a Cambrian Board member as one who will provide strategic oversight and guidance to help ensure Cambrian's strength continues building, even though the world around us is changing in complexity and risk.”

Judy has business and financial management experience in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Since 2012, she has focused on facilitating strategy and governance, leadership, and performance management for organizations and educational institutions. She previously enjoyed a 23-year career with a leading Canadian financial institution achieving the role of Director and Manitoba market lead for the wealth management division. Her work experience also includes senior commercial banking roles as well as the executive in residence for the University of Manitoba Asper School of Business.

As a committed educator and mentor, Judy is keenly aware of the importance of being receptive to new concepts. Currently a lead facilitator for the CPA profession, she knows the importance of keeping abreast of emerging issues and trends. She believes in collaboration to achieve success.

Judy is an active community volunteer. She is a board and audit committee member of Centre Venture Winnipeg. Previous community boards served include Safety Services Manitoba (chair); Teachers Retirement Allowance Fund (TRAF); Alzheimer’s Manitoba (chair) and Alzheimer’s Canada, as well as the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce (treasurer). Judy also served as chair of the Risk Management Association (Canada), and as Canadian committee chair of a North American industry trade association.

Judy holds an MBA from Dalhousie University, and is a Chartered Professional Accountant. In 2018, Judy was awarded the Accredited Canadian Credit Union Director designation and in 2020 attained the Institute of Corporate Director’s ICD.D designation.

Guy Whitehill

Vice-Chair

Board member since 2017. Term ends 2026.

“I am very excited to use my skills, experience, dedication and passion to provide guidance and oversight. I'm happy to support the future growth and profitability of Cambrian Credit Union while meeting the needs and expectations of our members and community.”

Guy retired from the role as Chief Financial Officer for Diagnostic Services Manitoba (DSM) in the summer of 2017 after 8 years in the role. Guy’s career as an accounting and finance professional has spanned more than 35 years, ranging from small, owner-operated businesses to large, publicly traded companies as well as government and crown corporations.

Guy is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified General Accountant (CPA, CGA). Guy has attended a number of specialty education and training programs in a variety of areas, including Board Governance and Audit Committee Practices.  Guy is chair of the Audit Committee and currently sits on the Governance, Human Resources and Compensation Committee.  In the past, he has been a volunteer board member for the local chapter of the Financial Executives International organization (FEI), a volunteer board member for the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada, and sat on the Audit Committee for two different grain organizations.

Omena Babalola

Director

Board member since 2023. Term ends 2026.

“With over 20 years’ experience in the areas of management, accounting, finance, risk management, audit, and information technology, Omena is skilled and experienced in identifying weaknesses in internal controls, discovering opportunities for improvement in processes, assessing impact of risks, and providing leadership to developing and implementing solutions.”

Omena has been an auditor at Manitoba Hydro for over seventeen years, specializing in information technology, contract, and operational engagements. During this time, she has acquired extensive knowledge of operations and processes in all business units, identified gaps in performance and recommended solutions, some of which resulted in changes to corporate policies. Prior to working at Manitoba Hydro, Omena was an Internal Auditor at Western Canada Lotteries Corporation for over six years.

Omena is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a bachelor’s in economics.

Omena is actively involved in the community through volunteerism, including serving on the Board of directors of various not-for-profit, charitable, and professional organizations in Winnipeg.

Howard Falk

Director

Board member since 1994. Term ends 2024.

“As a Cambrian Director, I'm passionate about the high level of service and leading innovation we provide our members; Making members' banking as convenient, simple and financially rewarding as possible.”

Howard is a Certified Professional Accountant, currently working as the Manager of the Operating Budget Review for the City of Winnipeg. He is responsible for managing his professional staff and providing direction to and challenging and compiling departmental budgets for elected officials review and publishing those decisions. His work experience includes nine years as a Controller in the private sector, five years in public practice, and over 20 years in the budget area with the City of Winnipeg. Howard currently sits on the Risk Oversight Committee, as well as the Nominating Committee.

Howard holds diplomas in Business Administration and Christian Education. He has also acquired his Masters Certificate in Municipal Leadership from York University – Schulich  School of Business. He has served extensively on the Council and as Chair of Trustees for Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, as well as volunteering as a sports coach and mentor for youth in the community for many years.

Cindy Genyk

Director

“I look forward to serving the members, employees and community on the Cambrian Board by leveraging my skills and hands-on knowledge of the Credit Union system to ensure a future of strong, sustainable growth.”

Cindy is a passionate I.T. industry leader with over twenty years of experience in Senior Management roles in private and publicly traded corporations. Over that time Cindy spent seven memorable years managing I.T. systems and processes within the Credit Union System. Cindy brings a strong reputation as a hands-on Technology Officer with a commitment to lifelong learning, leading teams, and helping others achieve their potential. Her experience within the Credit Union system coupled with her education and leadership skills position her to meet the demands of the Cambrian Board, ensuring a strong sustainable future for Cambrian Credit Union.

Holding a Masters of Science in Information Technology, Cindy is credited with the facilitation of million dollar projects under extreme conditions. She is highly capable of developing and executing strategy which has resulted in her ability to drive efficiency and value for Senior Executives, Officers, and key organizational stakeholders.

Cindy is an active member in the community. She enjoys volunteering with and supporting organizations which make a difference in the lives of others. Cindy has successfully served on several boards including the Project Management Institute Winnipeg Chapter as Membership Committee Chair.

Paul Holden

Director

Board member since 1996. Term ends 2026.

“I am proud to have been a part of the health and success of Cambrian thus far and am privileged to serve our members in my current capacity as a Director of the Board.”

Paul has played a leadership role in Cambrian’s growth and success since his election to the Board in 1996. He brings expertise through his experience as the CEO of ECG Canada Group, where he ensures that the business community has access to the right people with the right skills. Prior to this role, Paul served as CEO of the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology and as Senior Executive Director, Manitoba Jobs and Skills Development with the Department of Jobs and the Economy. In this capacity Paul has worked hand in hand with the business community focusing on industry expansion and attraction, and human resources support.

Paul served as Chair of Cambrian’s Board of Directors from 2000 to 2014 and was Vice-Chair from 2014 - 2018. In addition, Paul is a member of the Risk Oversight Committee. Paul also serves as Chair for Credit Union Central of Manitoba's Board of Directors and is Chair of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce.

Ken Lamoureux

Director

“I take great pride in being able to serve Cambrian Credit Union through its Board of Directors. Having been a member of Cambrian for many years, it's most encouraging to see the excellent results that Cambrian has achieved over the years and continues to achieve due to its strong management team and an effective Board of Directors.”

With over 35 years in the Information Technology industry, including 18 years in financial services, Ken brings diverse experience in the private, public, and charitable sectors.  He has also held a number of executive/management positions, including; Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Manitoba Lotteries Corporation, Executive Director, Strategic Services in Business Transformation and Technology for the Province of Manitoba and Associate Manager, Systems Architecture and Planning at Great-West Life Assurance Company.

His previous Governance experience has included: Canadian Internet Registration Authority, Nominating Committee; St. Boniface General Hospital, Vice Chair and member of the Finance and Audit Committee; United Way Winnipeg, Campaign Cabinet, Community Investment Committee and Board of Trustees.

Ken brings cross-sectoral experience in governance & strategic planning with a clear understanding of the duties, responsibilities, and accountabilities of the Board and experience in the application of good governance for strong cooperative performance.

A life-long learner, Ken’s current certifications and accreditations include: Institute of Corporate Directors-Director (ICD.D) from Rotman/Asper Schools of Business & the Institute of Corporate Directors; Accredited Canadian Credit Union Director (ACCUD) from Dalhousie University/Credit Union Institute of Canada; and Certification in the Governance of Enterprise Information Technology (CGEIT) from the Information Systems Audit & Control Association (ISACA).

Jeffrey Morton

Director

Board member since 2018. Term ends 2024.

“I understand a Board's responsibility to simultaneously support and challenge Senior Management on strategic issues in the best interests of the organization and its members.”

Jeffrey is a Chartered Accountant, recently retired as Chief Financial Officer of Piston Ring Service, a position he held for 17 years. Along with that, he has past experience working as Chief Financial Officer for National Leasing. Jeffrey is chair of the Governance, Human Resources and Compensation Committee and currently sits on the Risk Oversight Committee and Nominating Committee.

Jeffrey holds a Bachelor of Communications (Hons.) from the University of Manitoba along with a number of designations. He received his Chartered Accountant Designation and Fellowship Designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba, as well as ICD Designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. In 2019, Jeffrey was awarded the Accredited Canadian Credit Union Director designation.

Valerie Romanow

Board Member

Board member since 2015. Term ends 2024.

“I believe financial services are as necessary as our public utilities and deserve good governance.”

Valerie has 15 years of Executive-level experience owning her own company as well as 25 years’ experience in the Investment Industry and Financial Services Industry. Valerie hopes to offer her expertise and experience as a guide to the future success of Cambrian Credit Union.

Valerie has a diploma from the Northwestern School of Business Community College, was registered with both New York Stock Exchange Institute and the Canadian Securities Institute for many years and obtained several certificates and special training related to finance and business. Valerie is chair of the Nominating Committee and currently sits on the Audit Committee.

Bonnie Saluk Chwartacki

Board Member

Board member since 2020. Term ends 2026.

“As a board member, I look forward to serving members and their communities and helping the credit union maintain sustainable growth and prosperity. My professional background and personal values will guide me in providing responsible stewardship while meeting members' expectations.”

Bonnie has more than 30 years of Financial, Investment, Benefits, Pension and Human Resource experience and has held senior executive positions with some of the largest financial services and investment firms in Canada. She retired from her role of President of People Corporation in 2019 after 11 years with the organization.  

She understands the financial needs of investors, retirees, employees and business owners, which provides her with an invaluable perspective to understand the risk and opportunities facing Members and the Cambrian Credit Union, now, and in the future.

Bonnie is active in the community, serving on the Youth Employment Services of Manitoba (YES Manitoba) board of directors and mentors Manitoba entrepreneurial businesses through North Forge Technology Exchange.
