Each year, a United Way funded program or service directly impacts 1 in 3 Winnipeggers.
Do you know a senior, new immigrant, youth, person with a disability, single parent, someone with a mental illness, a community volunteer, a person in palliative or a person supported by an Indigenous-led agency? Chances are, they have benefited from a United Way Program!
For more than 50 years, United Way has worked to make the city great for everyone. United Way ensures critical, front-line support that supports thousands of Winnipeggers.
Founded in 1965, United Way Winnipeg is volunteer-driven and supported by a vast network of community leaders. In its first year of operation, United Way Winnipeg raised over $2 million in support of 50 agencies. Currently, United Way supports over 100 agencies in Winnipeg through donations, events, investment income and a provincial grant.
Cambrian Credit Union is proud to support the United Way as part of a workplace initiative and to practice one of our core values: community involvement. Cambrian Employees are unbelievably generous and, through their donations, create opportunities for a better life for everyone who lives in Winnipeg and surrounding areas.
Cambrian Credit Union matches 100% of employee contributions as corporate donations. AND 100% of the funds received by United Way Winnipeg go back to the community; this is made possible by an annual grant from the Province of Manitoba that supports fundraising and administrative costs.
We host various fundraising campaigns like our Casual Friday fundraiser, Payday Pool, and special events throughout the year.
In 2021 we raised a total of $171,143 for the United Way.
The total raised by Cambrian employees was $81,259, and Cambrian matched that amount dollar-for-dollar. We finished the United Way campaign with 33 team members donating at the Leadership Giving Level.
The generosity shown for the United Way Campaign demonstrates how staff live the values of Cambrian by pulling together to build healthier communities where everyone can thrive. Despite having a virtual campaign, we worked together to support a common cause and improve the quality of life for our community’s most vulnerable people.
This year, Cambrian staff organized staff games, barbecues and breakfasts. By donating our time to organize events that raise money for United Way, we allow employees to build relationships and do something positive for their local community.
Credit unions rely on the community for success, and we truly believe we can play a large part in making our communities better, stronger, and more vibrant.
At Cambrian, we know the power of working together to accomplish a goal, and we are proud of our corporate donations and sponsorships. Donations and volunteerism assist other organizations in reaching their financial goals and help them provide the services we rely on for healthcare, social support, and education.
