It’s that time of the year again when the malls and online stores are bustling with holiday shoppers. In this busiest retail season of the year, we encourage you to skip online shopping and the hassles of shipping, and encourage you to visit your local stores for those on your holiday list.
Buying from locally owned businesses keeps the profits local. More money remains in the community since locally-owned businesses often purchase from other local suppliers and service providers. Local businesses also boost our economy by growing a stronger tax base, which in turn translates to better public services for the local community.
The more we shop locally, the more these businesses are able to employ local residents.
Local businesses are heavily invested in the success of their community; they are more likely to donate more per sales dollar to local nonprofits, charitable causes, and events compared to national and international businesses. In an interview with CTV News, Chuck Davidson, President and CEO of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce, said that according to community futures, for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 will stay inside the community.
